Customarily, specialists in Hong Kong set up their practice in central business districts (CBD) like Central, Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui, however in recent years, we see a trend of community clinics extending their service scope into specialists services. Is there an increasing demand for specialists services in residential districts? Let’s see what traffic data of the leading medical service directory in town tells us about the need for medical services in various districts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Methodology<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We compiled pageviews of individual doctors locating in the specified district as well as pageviews of searches for doctors in that location. The report reflects data collected in August 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for doctors by districts – Top 10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Tsim Sha Tsui is the most popular district among the CBDs, followed by Central and Mong Kok. Although Shatin has the highest population, the demand for doctors is not as high as Yuen Long and Tsuen Wan. (Ref: Population estimates by district council district<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O&G (Obstetrician-gynecologist) is the most searched speciality (scroll down for district breakdown), followed by general practice and dentistry. Not all high demands are related to undersupply in public hospitals<\/a>, psychiatry for instance, though the total number of semi-urgent and stable new cases is higher than paediatrics, the demand in private sector is not as high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for O&G by districts – Top 10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Demand in residential districts is noteworthy. Yuen Long has the third-highest demand in doctors services, more than those looking for O&G in Central, which is generally considered as the more popular location. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for GP by districts – Top 10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Only two CBDs (Central and Mong Kok) are on the list, people are more location-sensitive when it comes to primary care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total demand for dentists in residential areas (Tuen Mun, Tseung Kwan O, etc.) is higher than in commercial areas (Central, Jordan, Causeway Bay, etc.). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for Dermatologist by districts – Top 10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Demand for Ophthalmologist by districts – Top 10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For both dermatology and ophthalmology, most people look for these services in CBDs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for ENT Doctor by districts – Top 10 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

People predominantly look for ENT doctor in Central. Whilst demand in Tsim Sha Tsui is less than a few residential districts like Shatin and Tsuen Wan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To conclude, most people are still looking for specialists services in CBD, whilst some specialities demand might be shifting, in particular, for O&G, demand in the residential area like Tusen Wan and Yuen Long has surpassed a CBD like Causeway Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
